This month’s guest speaker is Valerie “Val” Uschock LCAT, MT-BC.
Val is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, Board Certified Music Therapist, and Hospice & Palliative Care Music Therapist with 30 years of experience. She has worked with patients ranging in age from 1 to 102 years over a wide variety of diagnoses and clinical settings including hospitals, schools, day programs, groups homes, and private practice. Val has specialized in Neurologic Disorders, Autism Spectrum, Dementia Care, and End of Life Care. She is currently the Music Therapist at VITAS Healthcare’s Pittsburgh Program which provides hospice services to Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. To help her patients maximize quality of life, Val implements various music therapy interventions to alleviate pain, anxiety, depression, grief, sensory deprivation, and social isolation. Dr. Hammer is board-certified in both neurology and vascular neurology. Dr. Hammer currently serves as an associate professor, Department of Neurology, at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
