The symposium began in August, 2015 in Chapel Hill as the UNC/ISMICS Heart Team Summit. In 2019, the symposium has expanded from the multidisciplinary collaboration around atrial fibrillation and rhythm device management to now include heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, venous embolism, and heart failure. The Summit will integrate the cultures of cardiology and cardiac surgery. Barriers such as facility limitations and communication difficulties will be addressed during this seminar. Evidence-based recommendations and treatment guidelines will direct the educational presentations and provide attendees with key learning objectives for related application in their practices.
