Heart Team Summit

The Pittsburgh Heart Team Summit provides tools to surgeons and cardiologists that enable collaboration in the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases.

The symposium began in August, 2015 in Chapel Hill as the UNC/ISMICS Heart Team Summit.  In 2019, the symposium has expanded from the multidisciplinary collaboration around atrial fibrillation and rhythm device management to now include heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, venous embolism, and heart failure.  The faculty includes some of the leading experts in these clinical areas. The objective remains to advance the team concept of patient care. Because surgeons and cardiologists infrequently meet together to discuss ways to improve team dynamics and compare cooperative expertise, this seminar will educate physicians and health care providers about ways to work together for improved patient safety and clinical efficiency.  The Summit will integrate the cultures of cardiology and cardiac surgery.  Barriers such as facility limitations and communication difficulties will be addressed during this seminar. Evidence-based recommendations and treatment guidelines will direct the educational presentations and provide attendees with key learning objectives for related application in their practices.
