When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Abnormal bleeding, including bleeding from the rectum or vomiting blood
  • Severe headache, abdominal, pelvic, chest, or back pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat
  • Feeling about to pass out

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Persists for two or more weeks despite taking measures to manage symptoms
  • Weight loss
  • Sadness
  • Not interested in activities
