When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Sudden onset; if having a stroke, immediate treatment is critical
  • Difficulty walking
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Slurred speech

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Gradual loss of muscle coordination in leg, arm, or hand
  • Gradual loss of balance
  • Increasing problems completing daily tasks
