When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • New, persistent chest pain
  • Sweating, shortness of breath, or pain that radiates to the back, arm, or jaw
  • Nausea, dizziness, or weakness
  • Heavy sensation in the midchest
  • Goes away and comes back, or is worse with activity

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Associated with activity
  • Worsens over time and interferes with daily activity
  • Interferes with sleep
