If directed by a doctor, frequent, nutrient-dense meals may help. Moderate exercise may build muscle and stimulate appetite.

When to make a doctor's appointment

See a doctor if:

  • Unexplained or unintentional weight loss
  • Weight loss greater than 10 pounds or 5 percent of body weight over six to 12 months or less
