Ventricular tachycardia


A condition in which the lower chambers of the heart (ventricles) beat very quickly.

Overview

Ventricular tachycardia occurs due to a problem with the heart's electrical impulses. The condition may develop as a complication of a heart attack or may occur in people with certain conditions, such as valvular heart disease.

Symptoms

Symptoms include chest pain, fainting, dizziness, and shortness of breath.

Treatments

Treatment options include medication to slow the heart rate, surgery, and an implantable device.
