Overview

Strep throat (streptococcal pharyngitis) is a bacterial infection. If untreated, it can cause complications such as kidney inflammation and rheumatic fever.

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms include red and swollen tonsils, swollen lymph glands in the neck, fever, and headache.

Treatments

Treatment involves antibiotics and medications to reduce pain and fever.
