Herpangina


A common childhood illness often caused by group A coxsackie viruses.

Overview

Herpangina is a viral illness that's most often seen in children ages three to 10, but it can occur at any age.

Symptoms

Sores appear in the mouth and throat, as well as on the feet, hands, and buttocks. They usually have a white base and a red border and may be very painful. Fever, headache, sore throat, or difficulty swallowing may occur.

Treatments

Treatment involves rest, drinking fluids, and pain relievers.
