A bone density test, also called a “DEXA” scan for Dual Energy x-ray Absorptiometry, measures the bone density at your hip or spine.
This test offers very precise results and is the preferred diagnostic tool for osteoporosis. A patient lies on a padded platform while an imager passes over her or his body. The scan emits a small amount of radiation – approximately one tenth the amount of a chest x-ray – and takes about 10 minutes to complete. For more information about bone density, please click here.
