Surgical Oncology

Many cancer treatments are available. Your treatment options will depend on several factors, such as the type and stage of your cancer, your general health, and your preferences. Together you and your doctor can weigh the benefits and risks of each cancer treatment to determine which is best for you.

Surgical Oncology aims to remove cancerous growth, or as much of it as possible. St. Clair’s surgical team has the technical expertise to perform the most advanced surgical and minimally invasive procedures. The goal of surgery is to remove the cancer or as much of the cancer as possible.

Treatment Techniques

  • Open surgery occurs if the tumor too large and not accessible by minimally invasive techniques.
  • Robot-assisted surgery, allows surgeons to perform different types of complex procedures with more flexibility and control and usually associated with minimally invasive surgery.
  • Minimally invasive techniques removes cancerous tissues by making microscopic incisions which reduces length of stay and healing time.

In each case, proper anesthesia and pain control make surgery and recovery as comfortable as possible.

Your team of experts will discuss which treatment technique is best for you.
