Q: What sparked your interest to focus in internal medicine?
A: My goal has always been to create a safe space for all of my patients to address any and all medical concerns that they have. Many individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community face disparities in healthcare due to providers not understanding their unique healthcare needs or due to fear of being “outed” or discriminated against. I feel that all my patients deserve a place where they can address their concerns with their physician in an environment that is open and without judgment.
Q: What’s your most impactful story whether i.e. patient, role model, inspirational, or educational related?
A: I always feel honored when my trainees decide to change their career path to primary care/general internal medicine because they witness the time I spend with my patients and the relationships that we create with each other.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about the city of Pittsburgh?
A: As a transplant to the City of Pittsburgh, I love how welcoming the city is and the sense of Pride the people have about their hometown. I also am an avid foodie, and love the Pittsburgh food scene.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: We have 2 dogs, Nellie and Ollie, a Golden Retriever and Cairn Terrier, respectively. Although he is about 1/4 of her size, Ollie is definitely the alpha dog in the family and makes sure to know that he is the boss.
