Integrated care and innovative urologic solutions for men’s health.

Urologic health simply isn’t a subject that men like to talk about. That’s because whether it’s erectile dysfunction (ED), prostate cancer, urinary incontinence, infertility or any number of other urologic health issues, there’s still a stigma attached that shouldn’t be there—especially with today’s revolutionary technology and treatments that can help to restore men’s quality of life.

At St. Clair Health, our St. Clair Medical Group—Urology team provides a full suite of advanced imaging and treatments for the full spectrum of men’s urologic issues.

“We take an integrated approach to urologic care that delivers more comprehensive, more advanced services,” Says St. Clair Urologist Jay Lutins, M.D. “That includes leading-edge minimally and non-invasive treatments that help men address urologic issues with very little disruption in their daily lives.”

One of these new treatments is GAINSwave.

GAINSwave is a non-invasive treatment for ED that is all natural, non-invasive, and delivered in 6-12 short treatment sessions. It uses high-frequency/low-intensity sound waves to increase blood flow, release growth factors in the tissue which enable new blood vessels to grow and breaks down micro-plaque in the penis. GAINSwave has no known side effects and a success rate of over 75% in treating ED.

“For men who want to avoid surgery or implants or can’t take ED medicine due to other health complications, GAINSwave is a real, proven and safe solution that can have dramatic results,” Dr. Lutins adds.

In addition to ED, GAINSWave is also used for a condition called Peyronie’s disease. This noncancerous condition is caused by fibrous scar tissue that develops on the penis and causes curved, and sometimes painful erections. The cause of Peyronie’s disease isn’t fully understood, but heredity, injury and age all appear to play a role. GAINSwave has been shown to effectively break up penile scar tissue and eliminate pain without drugs or surgery.

“It truly is game-changing technology,” Dr. Lutins says.

While GAINSWave and other procedures are offered at various specialty clinics, and ED medications can be ordered online, St. Clair’s urologists take a more holistic approach to men’s health to identify the root cause of each patient’s issue.

“Men who are experiencing ED may see a commercial for a pill, implant, injection or treatment and think ‘That’s what I need,’” Dr. Lutins says. “In reality, there may be a totally separate underlying condition behind the problem, such as heart disease, diabetes, or cancer. That’s why we don’t just treat the issue. We look for the cause and we collaborate with other physicians to deliver the personalized care that our patients truly need to achieve the best possible outcome.”

Enabling that approach is the fact that the St. Clair Medical Group—Urology is located in the brand-new Dunlap Family Outpatient Center, which also houses an array of St. Clair’s leading-edge services, including cardiac testing, imaging, endoscopy and medical oncology. The proximity of these specialties creates an environment of more engaged, integrated care to help pinpoint causes of men’s health issues.

“As doctors, we can now more easily and quickly collaborate,” Dr. Lutins adds. “That makes a big difference not only for us, but for our patients as well.”
