Job Descriptions:

Medical Assistant

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Completion of one of the following:
    • Graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program.
    • Graduate of a recognized Practical or Registered Nursing program.
    • Current enrollment in a recognized Medical Assistant program and Certification as a Medical Assistant.
    • Two years of direct patient care experience in an ambulatory care or hospital setting.
    • Two years of work experience in an ambulatory care or hospital setting and completion of a healthcare related educational training program.
  3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  4. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  5. Ability to operate various office and medical equipment.
  6. Fundamental understanding of personal computers and familiarity with the Windows operating system.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  2. One year experience performing phlebotomy and EKGs.

Essential Functions

  1. Exemplifies St. Clair Hospital’s Customer Service Behavioral Expectations in all interactions.  Treats customers with respect, compassion, and hospitality; anticipates, identifies, and responds to individual needs; makes a positive first impression by acknowledging customers; and demonstrates flexibility while maintaining priorities.
  2. Prepares and organizes exam rooms; inspects exam rooms for cleanliness and equipment condition; maintains sample medication closet; stocks and maintains rooms with adequate supplies.
  3. Checks patients’ medical records for pertinent data; reviews and maintains current patient information/demographic data.
  4. Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms; prepares for visits by physician and/or extender by obtaining initial information and vital signs; assists with exams, tests, and special procedures as directed.
  5. Screens telephone calls in order to provide the most effective patient care.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Licensed Practical Nurse

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Graduate of a recognized Practical Nursing program.
  2. Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania OR current temporary licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with successful completion of NLCLEX – LPN within 60 days of hire.
  3. Completion of one of the following:
    • One year of prior experience working as an LPN.
    • One year of prior work experience involving direct patient care.
  4. Highly effective communication skills.
  5. Ability to navigate electronic medical records and web based applications.
  6. Valid driver’s license, motor vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Physician Practice nursing experience preferred, but not required.

Essential Functions

  1. Exemplifies St. Clair Hospital’s Customer Service Behavioral Expectations in all interactions.  Treats customers with respect, compassion, and hospitality; anticipates, identifies, and responds to individual needs; makes a positive first impression by acknowledging customers; and demonstrates flexibility while maintaining priorities.
  2. Participates in assigned quality initiatives by following gaps closely and assisting the provider by placing orders prior to the visit in an effort to capture past due diagnostic testing and labs.
  3. Functions as a medical assistant by preparing the patient for the exam, documenting vital signs, updating medications, assist with exams, tests and special procedures as assigned.
  4. Participate in working the MA desktop in the EMR following Practice protocols and proper documentation and follow-up on all entries.
  5. Assist with ED follow-up calls when available and as assigned by the office manager.
  6. Assist with development of guidelines for prioritizing work activities, evaluating effectiveness, and modifying activities as necessary.
  7. Supports and upholds established policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control, and codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
