Summary
While performing duties related to St. Clair Hospital, this position is responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and maintaining boilers and all other heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) and auxiliary equipment (e.g., pneumatic tube systems, fire alarm systems, and building automation) to ensure safe and proper delivery of required services and utilities. According to detailed specifications and schedules, fires boilers and controls generation of a continuous supply of steam.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Advanced training/experience in physical plant operations
- HVAC equipment operation experience.
- Knowledge of personal computer operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous hospital plant operations experience.
- Previous experience with an automated energy management system.

- Fires boilers and controls generation of steam; observes boilers and related equipment to ensure that operation is in accordance with specified instructions.
- Inspects all mechanical spaces to observe the operating equipment associated with the delivery of services and utilities, maintains logs of such events and readings, and reports malfunctions to supervisor. Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, upgrades, and modifies mechanical system equipment.
- Tests all water systems and treats water with chemicals as necessary to prevent damage; maintains quality of water systems and associated equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled and responds to all emergency building operations and utilities.
- Maintains accurate documentation regarding repairs, materials, and time used on each assignment, preventive maintenance, and history record on department computerized maintenance management system.
- Performs other maintenance and emergency duties related to plumbing, electrical work, etc. as necessary.
