Q: What sparked your interest to focus in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine?
A: My grandfather was an orthopaedic surgeon in the Pittsburgh area for over 40 years. He initially sparked my interest in orthopaedic surgery when he fixed my broken arm as a child. Through his mentorship and knowledge, he was the first to introduce me to the field of orthopaedic sports medicine.
Q: What interested you to come work for St. Clair Health?
A: My wife is from the Mt. Lebanon area, and St. Clair Health was always her local hospital. She spoke very highly of the St. Clair and about how it is a fantastic resource to the community. It did not take long for me to recognize the top-class care that is delivered by St. Clair Health.
Q: What’s the funniest story working throughout your entire career? A: As a chief resident, each chief was told to give a “passion talk”. This was a lecture given to the entire department of orthopaedics, but it was not allowed to be about medicine; it had to be a topic of something else you were passionate about. My presentation was titled “How to Speak Pittsburghese”. I discussed the origin of Pittsburghese, how to pronounce proper Pittsburgh dialect, and gave vocabulary definitions about words that one may not hear outside of Western Pennsylvania. Presenting to a crowd of New Yorkers was priceles; having them attempt to speak sentences in Pittsburghese is one of my favorite memories.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: Ice Cream
