St. Clair Hospital Joins Mayo Clinic Care Network
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – St. Clair Hospital is the newest member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, a growing national network of independent health care providers committed to serving patients and their families through clinical collaboration.
St. Clair Hospital remains independent and locally governed. Under this formal agreement, St. Clair Hospital has access to the latest Mayo Clinic knowledge and promotes clinical collaboration between physicians to benefit patients. The goal of St. Clair Hospital and Mayo Clinic is to help patients get answers to complex medical questions while staying close to home.
“St. Clair is proud to be selected as the newest member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network,” says James M. Collins, president and CEO of St. Clair Hospital. “This clinical collaboration with Mayo – unique in western Pennsylvania – is rooted in our common philosophy. It will provide our physicians the expertise of Mayo Clinic to assist them as they treat challenging medical cases – at no additional cost to patients and insurers.”
With this new relationship, St. Clair Hospital will work closely with Mayo Clinic to share medical knowledge and clinical expertise. Local physicians will have access to information and services, including:
• eConsults that enable St. Clair Hospital physicians to connect electronically and directly with Mayo specialists for more input on a patient’s care in cardiology, neurology and other areas
• AskMayoExpert, a database for reference at the point of care to offer the latest Mayo Clinic-vetted information on the evaluation and treatment of various medical conditions
• Health care consulting that enables St. Clair Hospital to learn more about Mayo Clinic’s clinical, operational and business models, including how they are designed and implemented
• eTumor Board conferences that invite St. Clair Hospital physicians to present and discuss complex cancer cases with a multidisciplinary panel of Mayo Clinic specialists and other network members
St. Clair Hospital providers also can access Mayo Clinic’s extensive library of patient education materials and archived Mayo Clinic grand rounds presentations that feature Mayo Clinic physicians and scientists.
“We are pleased to welcome St. Clair Hospital to the network,” says David Hayes, M.D., medical director of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. “Our goal in the network is to identify and work closely with like-minded organizations to enhance the delivery of care. We’ve found so many similarities â not just in our commitment to quality and value for patients, but in our approach to clinical collaboration. This is a great opportunity for us to work together.”
Launched in 2011, the Mayo Clinic Care Network now consists of more than 40 member organizations in the U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. St. Clair Hospital and other members undergo a rigorous evaluation before joining the Mayo Clinic Care Network. All share Mayo Clinic’s commitment to improve the quality and delivery of health care.
