St. Clair Hospital - Medical Services

St. Clair Hospital’s Laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology and analyzers that are designed to provide quick and accurate results to a patient’s physician.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Laboratory offers comprehensive testing, including Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and a Blood Bank.

The Lab’s analyzers and information systems interface with the Hospital’s main computer system and results are transmitted accurately to nursing units and, in many cases, directly to physician offices.

Testing for outpatients is completed at the Laboratory, located on the third floor of the hospital and hours are:

Monday and Tuesday -- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday through Friday -- 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Saturday -- 8 a.m. to noon.

Working together and with community-based physicians, the Laboratory staff’s goal is to provide timely, accurate information needed for diagnosis and treatment.

Some of the Laboratory’s team members include:

Pathologists – Physicians specializing in areas such as laboratory medicine, surgical pathology, and cytology.

Phlebotomists – Professionals trained to take blood samples and other specimens from patients with minimal discomfort.

Medical technologists – Professionals trained to analyze most specimens.

Cytologists and Histotechnologists – Trained to process surgical and cellular specimens, these Laboratory professionals help with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases.

Others - Medical transcriptionists, secretaries, and clerks ensure testing results are processed quickly and sent to physicians in a timely manner.
