PET Scanning (Positron Emission Tomography) – A revolutionary diagnostic tool that provides diagnostic information that no imaging tests can provide.
PET works by creating powerful images of the biological functions of the human body to reveal disease states. To create these images, compounds like simple sugars (glucose, for example) are labeled with signal-emitting tracers and are injected into the patient.

– a group of 11 board-certified Radiologists – provide high quality interpretative and interventional services.
All exams require a physician’s order and may also require preauthorization or a referral from a patient’s insurance carrier or other payor.
– X-rays are radiographs of a patient’s body, including the chest, abdomen, head, and extremities. In some cases, a patient may be asked to drink a special liquid preparation or to fast for a specified length of time.
– A highly sophisticated, computerized scanning procedure of the body (chest, abdomen, pelvis, and head) or organs. This exam is used to diagnose certain diseases or conditions, or to perform a variety of interventional studies. In order to obtain a higher diagnostic quality, a dye may be injected or patients may be asked to drink a special liquid preparation.
– This exam involves a radiograph of the breast. A patient may experience minor discomfort when the breast is compressed in order to obtain high quality images for diagnostic purposes. Digital screening mammography services are available at our Hospital and Bethel Park locations. Certain exams may require a “needle localization” or “stereotactic core biopsy” which is the placement of a needle into the breast to obtain a tissue sample. The Mammography Center is certified by the American College of Radiology.
– This exam involves the administration of a radioactive compound either by injection or by mouth. Technologists then take a scan that provides diagnostic information about the body (specifically, the bones) or organ function, including stress tests for the heart, thyroid gland, and lung.
– The use of sound waves, often called “Doppler”, to provide diagnostic information about organs and tissues. The most common uses are for pregnancy and diagnosis of conditions of the gallbladder, carotid, and other artery scans. Several tissue biopsies can also be performed with ultrasound. The Ultrasound Lab is certified by the American College of Radiology.
uses a magnetic field to produce detailed images of the body.
