Second Wind Pulmonary Education Classes

Location: Dunlap Conference Center, Fourth Floor
Time: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Cost: Free

The Second Wind Pulmonary Education classes are designed to help those with lung disease manage difficult breathing, anxiety, cough, and loss of energy. “Why Can’t I Breathe” is taught by a registered nurse who will explain different types of breathing problems, teach breathing retraining exercises and review proper use of medications and oxygen. “Eat Right, Breathe Easy” is taught by a registered dietitian and will include information on healthy food choices to maximize energy and breathing as well as tips on eating healthy when you are short of breath or fatigued.  “Learning to Breathe Better” is taught by an occupational therapist who will address anxiety, discuss relaxation exercises, and teach work simplification/energy conservation techniques for activities of daily living to better manage shortness of breath.

Classes are also recommended for families and caregivers.  For more information, please call 412.942.2008. There is no charge for the classes.

 

 

Cancer Support Group
Location: St. Clair Hospital - Please check in at the Fourth Floor Information Desk for exact room location
Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Cost: Free

This group is open to cancer survivors and their significant others, and is offered in cooperation with the Cancer Caring Center.  The group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. and is facilitated by an oncology nurse.  Registration is not required.  For addition information, call 412.942.5082.

Baby Basics

Location: St Clair Hospital Outpatient Center; Room 300; 2000 Oxford Drive; Bethel Park, PA 15102
Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Cost: $50 per couple

The Baby Basics class prepares expectant parents for life with a new baby. Topics include recommended baby supplies and equipment, newborn care, normal newborn appearance, crying and sleeping – with a special emphasis on safety and wellness.  Parents practice baby care skills using realistic newborn dolls.  Active participation is encouraged to boost confidence while preparing for your newborn’s arrival.  Grandparents are welcome to enroll in Baby Basics to update their baby care knowledge and skills.  Baby Basics is recommended between 20 to 32 weeks of pregnancy.
