Becoming a big brother or sister is a major event in the life of a child. The Siblings Class – which is geared for children 3 to 7 years of age – helps siblings welcome a new brother or sister to the family, while also learning important information about newborns. Children have the opportunity to practice holding and diapering a “baby”. The class includes storytelling, a child-based project and a visit to the Family Birth Center. Class size is limited to six children and their parents. For additional information, please call 412-942-5877.
The Growing and Changing program centers on the physical, social and emotional changes that accompany the onset of puberty. It is normal to experience strong emotions during puberty, so taking care of one's feelings is as important as taking care of one's changing body. Topics include female anatomy, reproductive development, menstruation and personal hygiene and health habits. In addition, this class addresses ways to recognize and appropriately deal with feelings, as well as learning effective communication techniques with parents and other trusted adults. This program is designed for 9 to 11 year old girls and their mothers, and is offered over two weeknight sessions or a Saturday morning tea. For additional information, please call 412-942-5877.
