This support group is open to anyone in the community who needs support for themselves or loved ones who are struggling with mental illness. Participants are encouraged to bring family members and loved ones. For more information, please call 412.942.4800.

The Second Wind Pulmonary Education classes are designed to help those with lung disease manage difficult breathing, anxiety, cough, and loss of energy. “Why Can’t I Breathe” is taught by a registered nurse who will explain different types of breathing problems, teach breathing retraining exercises and review proper use of medications and oxygen. “Eat Right, Breathe Easy” is taught by a registered dietitian and will include information on healthy food choices to maximize energy and breathing as well as tips on eating healthy when you are short of breath or fatigued. “Learning to Breathe Better” is taught by an occupational therapist who will address anxiety, discuss relaxation exercises, and teach work simplification/energy conservation techniques for activities of daily living to better manage shortness of breath.

Smoke Free for Life is a quit smoking program for adults that is designed to help you quit and to stay quit. Over the series of eight classes (1 1/2 hours in length), the participant will learn how to make a personal quit plan and prepare for quit day. Ways to keep your motivation high and your goal in sight are stressed. Other topics addressed are weight control, stress and the art of positive self-talk. Once you quit, the classes will provide strategies and tools to help you stay smoke free.

Labor & Delivery 1-2-3 is an abbreviated three-hour childbirth education class that familiarizes expectant parents with the labor and delivery experience. The class reviews the following topics: signs of labor, when to call your doctor, the stages of labor, delivery of a healthy newborn and use of medications and epidurals during labor. Learning is enhanced through group discussion and course materials. Classes are offered as a single three-hour session on a weeknight or weekend. Expectant parents should schedule this class by the second trimester of pregnancy to ensure class availability and complete the program before the 36th week of pregnancy. For individuals diagnosed with breast cancer, this group meets on the third Tuesday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. and is facilitated by an oncology nurse. The program is co-sponsored by the Cancer Caring Center. Registration is not required. For addition information, call 412.942.5082.
