Childbirth Preparation is a seven hour childbirth program that focuses on the natural birthing experience. This comprehensive course highlights the following topics: the birth process, signs of labor, when to call your doctor, pain management techniques, paced breathing, relaxation techniques and medication and anesthesia options during labor and delivery. This course facilitates practice for comfort and relaxation strategies and the birth coach's support role. The Childbirth Preparation Program includes all content from the Labor and Delivery 1-2-3 program, as well as focusing on paced breathing and relaxation techniques. Childbirth Preparation is offered over two consecutive weeks or as a one or two day intensive program. Expectant parents should schedule this course by the second trimester of pregnancy to ensure class availability and complete the course before the 36th week of pregnancy. For more information, please call 412-942-5877.
Before January 2018, the Childbirth Preparation program does not include a tour of the birthing unit. The tour must be scheduled separately under Family Birth Center Tour.
