The therapeutic treatment programs at the Center for Behavioral and Mental Health are designed to assist patients with mental illness.

The programs rely on a multidisciplinary team of caring professionals -- including physicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, and social workers -- to develop individualized treatment plans to best meet the specific needs of each patient.

Distinct services exist with the Center for Behavioral and Mental Health including the Inpatient Unit, the Mental Health Liaison Program, Community Outreach Support and Education, and the Partial Hospitalization Program.

For more information about any of our programs and services, please contact us at (412)942-4800, or click here to request copies of our informational materials.

Inpatient Unit
The 26-bed Inpatient Unit provides a comfortable, secure, therapeutic environment for adult patients seeking treatment for a wide variety of acute psychiatric illnesses, including depression and anxiety disorders. Treatment is individualized based on the needs of the patient. Each patient receives a treatment plan which may include diagnostic tests, medication management, one-on-one therapy, and group therapy.

Mental Health Liaison Program
The Mental Health Liaison Program staff includes specially trained nurses who provide mental health assessment and intervention for identified patients in the Emergency Department. The Liaison Program also provides patient-centered consultations throughout all of the Hospital's units and programs.

Community Outreach
As with all of the Centers of Excellence at St. Clair Hospital, community education and outreach are principle goals of the Center for Behavioral and Mental Health. Patients and their families are encouraged to take advantage of ongoing support and education programs.

In addition, individuals and organizations in the community can attend regularly-scheduled educational programs or make arrangements for mental health professionals from the Center for Behavioral and Mental Health to develop customized presentations. Topics may include stress in the workplace, depression and substance abuse. For more information or to schedule a presentation, call (412)942-4850.

Partial Hospitalization Program

The Partial Hospitalization Program at the Center for Behavioral and Mental Health is a short-term program designed as an alternative to inpatient treatment for adults with an acute psychiatric illness who require a more intensive level of treatment than traditional outpatient services are able to provide.

Patients may attend treatment up to four days a week from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to psychotherapy and expressive therapy, the program offers group therapy focusing on problem solving, relapse prevention, assertiveness training, community living and lifestyle skills, medication education, and stress management.
