About St. Clair
Auxiliary
As one of the largest and most active hospital auxiliaries in Pennsylvania, the St. Clair Hospital Auxiliary has supported the Hospital's patients, programs and services for more than 60 years.
Dedicated to the Hospital's mission of providing quality, service-oriented health care to the community, Auxiliary members find their efforts fulfilling, knowing their work is helping patients, their families, and the community at large.
History
It all started with a need. A need for South Hills' residents to have their own quality and compassionate health care. In 1944, as World War II was coming to an end, the need for emergency and general medical care close to home became even more pressing as returning soldiers moved into the South Hills' communities and started families. Community members worked with area businesses for corporate and employee donations. The St. Clair Hospital Auxiliary was formed and began making an immediate impact to fund the Hospital, initially by sponsoring card parties in private homes. The Hospital broke ground in October 1951 and the Auxiliary has played an integral role ever since.
Making a Difference
The Auxiliary promotes and supports St. Clair through fundraising activities, special events and volunteer efforts. The organization's contributions can be found throughout the Hospital and its outpatient facilities. Over the past decade, the Auxiliary has donated millions of dollars to the Hospital. Because of its financial contributions, the Hospital is able to purchase the latest medical equipment, support facility upgrades and provide community outreach programs.
The Auxiliary has contribted to furnishing the new 46 room state-of-the-art ER, provided equipment for the Family Birth Center, and paid for equipment used in the early diagnosis of osteoporosis. Many Auxiliary members also serve as volunteers for the Hospital, donating their time and skills to ensure patients and visitors have a quality experience. Joining the Auxiliary allows members who cannot commit specific hours to the volunteer program to aid the Hospital through special projects and on an as needed basis.
The Gift Shop
Located in the Hospital's newly renovated Fourth Floor Lobby, the Gift Shop is open 7 days a week and offers a host of items to make both patients and visitors more comfortable. Items for sale include: fresh flowers, greeting cards, candy, jewelry, baby clothes, cosmetics, toys and reading material. The Gift Shop has served the St. Clair community since 1954 and continues to be the Auxiliary's largest fundraising effort.
Events
The Auxiliary hosts a variety of high-profile events in the community each year to raise funds for the Hospital. The organization sponsors book sales, art shows and an annual holiday Commemorative Tree within the Hospital.
