Ways to Give

St. Clair Hospital Foundation uses annual appeals, capital campaigns and special events to raise funds in support of St. Clair Hospital.

There are numerous ways to make a gift to the St. Clair Hospital Foundation.

Current gifts can be made via cash, stock or property. Deferred gifts can be made through bequests, life insurance policies or retirement assets. Donors can also make memorial contributions or direct their gifts to St. Clair Hospital Foundation through the United Way donor choice program by using the Contributor Choice Code #1326.

Other forms of deferred gifts – such as charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, charitable gift annuities and pooled income funds – can provide income to the donor or another person of the donor’s choosing. All of these methods of giving provide tax benefits, but since each individual’s financial situation is unique, all donors should consult their personal financial advisors for additional information.

St. Clair Hospital Foundation uses annual appeals, capital campaigns and special events to raise funds in support of St. Clair Hospital. Please review the following various appeals and see which way to contribute to the Foundation is best suited to you:

Campaigns

Emergency Department Expansion & Renovation

With more than 50,000 visits each year, the St. Clair Hospital Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Western Pennsylvania.  That number is expected to grow to 65,000 visits by the year 2014.

In order to meet the anticipated demand, the Hospital broke ground to expand the Emergency Department in the fall of 2007.  The Emergency Department expansion has doubled the size of the existing facility by 18,000 square feet and increased the number of patient rooms from 21 to 46. This expansion is providing sufficient capacity to handle the current volume, as well as the projected volume of visits for many years to come.

“Building on Success” Capital Campaign

The Building on Success campaign raised funds for three major facility expansions/modernizations – Outpatient Services, Critical Care Units, Medical/Surgical Units, and increased Endowment. These updates enabled St. Clair Hospital to continue to provide the high quality, comprehensive, lifelong medical care that the Hospital’s communities need – and to make that care more accessible and convenient than ever.

Appeals

Annual Appeals

St. Clair Hospital Foundation conducts a series of Annual Appeals to solicit and create a pool of sustaining funds to support the many ongoing projects funded through the Foundation. Over the years, many projects have received funding, but the most visible and ongoing are the Patient Transportation Program, Flu and Pneumonia immunizations, community education and awareness programs, and the employee and patient assistance programs.

Our Annual Appeals are directed toward the community:

  • St. Clair Hospital's community of donors, past and present
  • All prospective donors in the areas served by the Hospital

And the Hospital family:

  • Employees
  • Auxiliary and Volunteers
  • Medical Staff
  • Board of Directors

Every gift, regardless of size, is welcome, and we urge members of the general community to give what they can. If you would like to make a contribution to St. Clair Hospital Foundation, please download our donor form or contribute electronically.

Events

St. Clair Hospital Golf Classic and Gala

St. Clair Hospital Golf Classic & Gala is an annual event that helps to raise awareness and funds for a designated area of the Hospital each year.  Over the past 11 years, the Golf Classic & Gala has raised more than $1 million that went to various projects, such as the Heart Center Fund, the Orthopedic Fund, “Building on Success” Capital Campaign Fund and the Emergency Department Expansion Fund.

The Gala features wonderful entertainment. Each year the silent auction expands and is filled with tickets to sporting events, trips, fine wine, golf packages, a Pebble Beach golf trip sponsored by Lexus Champions for Charity and Rohrich Lexus, pampering baskets, autographed items from sports celebrities, fine jewelry and art pieces.

Other Ways to Give

Lifetimes

Bequests

The most common form of planned giving is a gift made through a donor’s will.

The most common form of planned giving is a gift made through a donor’s will. Individuals may name St. Clair Hospital Foundation in their wills for a specific amount or a percent share of their estate. The Foundation can also be a residual beneficiary of an estate after payment of bequests to others. Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity is a contract between a donor and a charitable institution. The donor makes a gift to the charity, and in return, he or she receives annual payments (depending on the donor’s age) for life. A portion of this type of gift is tax deductible, and not all of the annual payments will be taxed as income. Use the gift calculator to determine your giving level, or learn more about charitable gift annuities.

Charitable Lead Trusts

Charitable lead trusts are most appealing to donors who wish to pass appreciated assets to their heirs without paying a substantial amount in taxes. This is accomplished by allowing the St. Clair Hospital Foundation to receive income from the donor’s assets for a specified time, after which the asset is transferred back to the donor or to the donor’s heirs. The donor does pay a gift tax on the asset, which is placed in the trust. The trust can reduce gift and estate taxes or provide a charitable deduction for the donor. Use the gift calculator to determine your giving level or learn more about charitable lead trusts.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Through charitable remainder trusts, donors can receive income tax deductions and avoid capital gains taxes. Many donors find the trusts appealing during retirement planning. Use the gift calculator to determine your giving level or learn more about charitable remainder trusts.

Electronic Bank Transfer

Utilizing electronic bank transfers to make your gift to the St. Clair Hospital Foundation means that you never have to worry about a check being lost in the mail. Most importantly, electronic bank transfer is safe and free. With a minimum of $10, you may have any amount automatically deducted from your checking account or debited to a credit card. Just like electronic banking, your generous contribution is easily and automatically transferred. To make an electronic bank transfer, complete the on-line form and send it, along with your first payment check (so that the Foundation can list the correct routing information) to:

St. Clair Hospital Foundation
1000 Bower Hill Road
Pittsburgh, PA 15243.

Life Insurance Gifts

A gift of whole life insurance can be made to the St. Clair Hospital Foundation by naming the Foundation as the irrevocable owner and beneficiary of the policy. Gifts of life insurance policies require charitable contributions from the donor to the Foundation in the amount of any premiums – including unscheduled premiums – which may become due.

Whether large or small, each gift identifies a respected name with the good work it supports.

Memorial Contributions

Memorial gifts honor the deceased by serving the living. Whether large or small, each gift identifies a respected name with the good work it supports. Any gift can be designated as a memorial or honorary gift. When making a donation to St. Clair Hospital Foundation, please attach an explanation that includes the name of the person you are memorializing or honoring, and the family contact name and address (for memorials) or the individual’s name address (for honorary gifts). We will contact the family or individual to share with them your thoughtfulness.

Planned Giving

Planned giving – which includes bequests from estates and life income plans, such as charitable remainder trusts – is a method of including charitable giving in your long-term financial plan. As a friend of the St. Clair Hospital Foundation, your generosity can benefit your personal goals by enhancing your future financial security. As with all financial decisions, a planned gift should be designed with care. St. Clair Hospital Foundation staff will work closely and confidentially with you to help plan for your specific needs and the needs of your family.
