Purpose of a Wound Center

Chronic wounds can lead to a decrease in productivity, causing financial and emotional burdens for patients and their families. In the United States, chronic wounds affect an estimated 6.5 million people. An excess of $25 billion is spent annually on the treatment of chronic wounds. These numbers have continued to grow at a rapid pace due to our aging population and a rise in diabetes and obesity. Some 7.8% of the U.S. population suffer from diabetes and it is estimated that up to 25% of all diabetics will develop a diabetic foot ulcer in their lifetime.
