Orthopedics

St. Clair Hospital’s orthopedics program includes a variety of services focused on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

From diagnostic testing to arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery to elective surgery to rehabilitation, St. Clair provides access to leading edge technologies in a compassionate and caring setting.  

Our multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and therapists develop coordinated treatment plans for each patient to ensure that each individual receives personalized attention and comprehensive care with the ultimate goals of better results and fewer complications.

Our Services

The services we provide to inpatients and outpatients include:

Service   Description
Balance and Fall Prevention Program
  Designed to evaluate and treat patients with balance deficits and screen patients who are at-risk for falls, as well as to provide fall prevention education.
IRU
  The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) is located on the Hospital's Fifth Floor and provides patients with specifically designed therapy programs for reaching maximum independence in living skills, mobility and communication.
Low Vision
  The use of adaptive techniques and special equipment designed to provide day-to-day independence for persons with poor and declining vision.
Neurology
  Medical specialty concerned with the correction and prevention of disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nerves.
Neurosurgery
  Operations involving the brain, spinal cord or nerves.
Nursing
  Total inpatient care for patients recovering from orthopedic and/or neurological impairments.
Occupational Therapy
  This therapy complements treatment to promote maximum independence and safety for patients in their day-to-day activities. These include personal hygiene, mobility, vocational and leisure activities.
Physiatry
  The diagnosis and treatment of disorders that require rehabilitative care.
Physical Therapy
  Physical therapists are trained to relieve pain, improve movement, strength and function. Through evaluation and individualized treatment programs, physical therapists can treat existing problems as well as promote wellness.
Podiatry
  The diagnosis and treatment of diseases and other disorders of the feet.
Rheumatology
  The prevention and correction of disorders characterized by inflammation and/or degeneration of connective tissue and related structures of the body.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
  The use of exercise to aid in the recovery from a vestibular disorder, a condition characterized by dizziness and/or decreased balance due to damage to the inner ear or brain.

Community Education

We also offer community education programs on a range of topics, including fall prevention, ergonomics,  muscular skeletal injuries, total joint replacement and osteoporosis – all of which can be tailored to fit a variety of audiences and settings.

In addition, we offer a pre-operative hip/knee education class to help patients understand and better prepare for total joint surgery and the recovery period.  For more information about this class, as well as a listing of upcoming class dates, please visit the Programs & Events section of this Website.
