Cardiac MRI allows cardiac imaging physician specialists to visualize any scarring of the heart muscle that might indicate a prior heart attack or other condition. Cardiac muscle can be scarred not only by heart attacks, but also by viral infections, infiltrative diseases, or autoimmune diseases that can attack the heart. Learn More
3D Breast Tomosynthesis
Digital 3D Breast Tomosynthesis is a new and innovative FDA-approved technology that helps physicians detect breast cancer. Using an x-ray tube that moves in an arc around the patient’s breast, images are taken from multiple angles, while computer processing is used to build these “slices” into a three-dimensional image. Radiologists can then manipulate and scroll through to examine each slice individually, reducing or eliminating problems caused by overlapping or dense tissue. The 3D imaging technology, through these enhanced images, will help physicians detect smaller tumors sooner and allows better screening for women with dense breast tissue. Learn More
Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging is an advanced imaging tool that, when used in conjunction with annual screening mammograms, gives your physician the best chance of detecting cancers. It can also be useful for determining the best course of treatment for women who have been newly diagnosed with breast cancer. General Radiology (x-ray)
X-ray involves radiographs of a patient’s body, including the chest, abdomen, head, and extremities. In some cases, a patient might be asked to drink a special liquid preparation or to fast for a specified length of time.
An upper G.I. Series is a series of x-rays of the gastrointestinal tract that provides the Radiologist with information about the condition of the esophagus, stomach and the tip of the small intestine. Learn More
An Intravenous Pyelogram is an x-ray that provides the radiologist with information about the urinary system. A special dye is injected into your arm or hand. The dye is absorbed by the kidneys and passes through the ureters and into the bladder. Learn More
This exam involves a radiograph of the breast. A patient might experience minor discomfort when the breast is compressed in order to obtain high quality images. Digital screening mammography services are available at our Hospital and Bethel Park locations. Certain exams might require a “needle localization” or “stereo tactic core biopsy” which is the placement of a needle into the breast to obtain a tissue sample. This exam involves the administration of a radioactive compound by injection or by mouth. Technologists then take a scan that provides diagnostic information about the body (specifically, the bones) or organ function, including the heart, thyroid gland, and lungs.
PET Scanning (Position Emission Tomography)
A tool that provides diagnostic information that no other imaging tests can provide. PET works by creating powerful images of the biological functions of the human body to reveal disease. To create these images, compounds like simple sugars (glucose, for example) are labeled with signal-emitting tracers and are injected into the patient. Learn More
The use of sound waves, often called “Doppler,” to provide diagnostic information about organs and tissues. The most common uses are for pregnancy and diagnosis of conditions of the gallbladder, carotid, and other artery scans. Several tissue biopsies might also be performed.
