  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Recognizes St. Clair for Organ Donor Enrollment Accomplishments
    St. Clair was among a select group of hospitals nationwide, and one of only four in Pennsylvnia, that were recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for reaching gold, silver and bronze levels of achievement for conducting activities that promoted enrollment in state organ donor registries.

    St. Clair Hospital in Mount Lebanon is among a half-dozen hospitals in the Pittsburgh area to receive an “A” rating for safety by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit that is run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

  • St. Clair Hospital Named One Of The 100 Top Hospitals In the United States by Thomson Reuters
    The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates performance in 10 areas, including clinical outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction and clinical efficiency. To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Thomson Reuters researchers evaluated 2,886 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals. They used public information, including Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website.

    Hospitals & Health Networks magazine’s 2012 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study has named St. Clair Hospital among the nation’s “100 Most Wired” hospitals. The magazine makes its selection based on progress in adoption, implementation and use of information technology in four key areas:  infrastructure; business and administrative management; clinical quality and safety; and care continuum.

  • St. Clair Hospital Receives Patient Impact Award
    This award recognized the perioperative staff at St. Clair for their success in improving communication across their team. St. Clair developed questionnaires, workflow wizards, custom forms and reports to document specific data elements for use in quality reporting. By implementing these practices, St. Clair was able to reduce surgical site infections and met Joint Commission requirements to provide patients with up-to-date medication lists.

  • St. Clair Hospital’s Emergency Room Wins National Improvement Award.
    Press Ganey Associates named St. Clair Hospital’s Emergency Room a 2011 Success Story Award winner. The award from Press Ganey, a national organization that measures the quality of care that hospitals provide to patients, recognized St. Clair for demonstrating leadership, implementing organizational change, and improving performance in its ER.  St. Clair is one of only six organizations across the U.S. to receive the award for patient satisfaction performance.

    St. Clair Hospital won a Gold Award at the Fourth Annual Fine Awards for Teamwork Excellence in Health Care. Sponsored by the Fine Foundation and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, the Fine Awards were established to reinforce the critical role teamwork plays in health care.

  • St. Clair Hospital Receives Outstanding Rating
    St. Clair Hospital received an “outstanding” rating from The Joint Commission during the triennial certification process in 2011 resulting in full accreditation. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization, which accredits and certifies more than 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organizations’ commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
  • Honored by 2010 Fine Awards for Standardization of Anticoagulation Processes.
    St. Clair Hospital received a Special Recognition Award in the annual Fine Awards for improving patient safety through standardization of anticoagulation processes. The Fine Awards for Teamwork Excellence in Healthcare were established to reinforce the critical role teamwork plays in health care.

  • 2010 Recipient of Best Practice Award
    St. Clair Hospital received the Best Practice award in November 2010 for the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) initiative at the Highmark QualityBLUE Best Practice Forum for the finew work of the SCIP teamand the medical and nursing staff.
  • Way-Paver Award
    The TerraPharma Project selected Richard J. Schaeffer, vice president and chief information officer, St. Clair Hospital, as the recipient of its 2010 Way-Paver for Barcode Point-of-Care Award. The award acknowledges the exceptional contributions of individuals who have helped to clear the path and accelerate the widespread adoption of barcode point-of-care systems in North American hospitals.  Mr. Schaeffer helped St. Clair become the first hospital in the United States to utilize barcode-driven drug-dispensing robotics – a process that greatly enhanced patient safety.
  • Honored by Fine Awards for cutting patient wait time in the ER.
    November 18, 2009 - St. Clair Hospital won first place in the annual Fine Awards for cutting the average wait of patients in the emergency room by a half hour during the past year.

  • The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) has named St. Clair Hospital as a dual winner in HAP’s 2009 Achievement Awards Program.
    St. Clair Hospital was recognized for thoroughly and successfully demonstrating the Hospital’s innovation, creativity and commitment to patient care and operational excellence. St. Clair’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab was recognized as having the fastest "door-to-balloon" time of all hospitals in southwestern Pennsylvania that treat heart attack victims with balloon angioplasty. St. Clair Hospital's emergency department was also recognized for improving patient flow in the emergency department using Toyota-Based Methods. The Achievement Awards Program is designed to showcase hospital and health system best practices in selected areas.

  • Highmark Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care. The designation serves as formal recognition that St. Clair has met or exceeded the eligibility criteria that demonstrate reliability in delivering cardiac care and better overall outcomes for patients. The Hospital also was recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery and for Knee and Hip Replacement.
  • MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) mammography certification - February 2008.
  • Silver and Bronze awards from the American Heart Association for Defect Free Care for the months May 2007 - June 2008.
  • Institute for Healthcare Improvement recognition - the only hospital in Pennsylvania selected for a site visit for the Hospital's "5 Million Lives Fall" campaign - November 2007.
  • One of only six hospitals in the United States to receive a “Stage 6” designation from Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. This classification confirms the Hospital successfully implemented information technologies across a multitude of systems to improve quality outcomes, patient safety and planning for future business changes.   • Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA) Awards
    St. Clair is consistently recognized by the VHA for clinical excellence and has received numerous APEX (Achieving Patient Care Excellence) awards, including those in the following areas:
  • Sustaining zero central line associated bacteremia (CLAB) infections in the Intensive Care Unit (April 2008)
  • Decreasing ventilator assisted pneumonia (VAP) (April 2008)
  • Decreasing methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in the Intensive Care Unit (April 2008)
  • Achieving Greenlight Status, a 90 percent compliance with each of the quality measures in the Surgical Care Improvement Project National Quality Measure set 
  • Received Accreditation with Commendation from the American College of Surgeons as a comprehensive community cancer center.
  • Effectiveness of Rapid Response Team in decreasing mortality rate.
  • St. Clair was selected by VHA National as a Blueprint Hospital for fall prevention in January 2008, and was recognized for achieving greater than 90 percent compliance with all measures in April 2008.

  • Best treatment times in southwestern Pennsylvania for treating a heart attack patient, from the moment of arrival at the Emergency Department to the time the patient receives a balloon angioplasty to open a blockage, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid and the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations – 2008.
  • “Exemplary” rating from Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, resulting in full accreditation - February 2008.
